News Flash

On Christmas eve and on Christmas day BBC Radio Newcastle broadcast two of our students singing their Christmas contribution at the Arts Centre's Christmas Choir Concert. Both Lucy Goodings and Abby Wilson did an excellent job representing the Voice Studio.

January 2017

We spent January improving vocal technique. Everyone is getting a much better understanding of how to position the soft palette. Also how to utilise thin and thick vocal folds more effectively.

Four new students were welcomed to the voice studio this month.

The end of January saw 18 students present and past being auditioned when X Factor came to the Studio to audition for this years show. The auditions went like clockwork with every student on time and well prepared. I was really proud of their professionalism and willingness to do this win or fail.

February will see a start checking dates at Arts Centre for early shows at the in house theatre. And so the preparations begin.

The Voice Studio

Professional singers find their way to the studio to re-build damaged voices and improve their craft. Newcastle University send their music degree students to me for voice coaching. My students often go on to become professional singers and many more gain places in performing arts colleges. I have students who started as youngsters now working nationally and internationally. Daniel Hope is currently in the West End in Wicked, Adam Strong toured the world in Jesus Christ Superstar, I have singers in the Middle East working the 6 star hotel market and Production Singers aboard cruise ships. Some have stayed local doing the circuit in the northeast in bands or as solo acts. Others have gone on to teach singing all over the country and some of them still book in for top ups. I know every aspect of the Music and Entertainment business and with this experience my students have the best possible feet on the ground approach to enter a tough but exciting business. For others the journey has been more about pleasure and being noticed and finding themselves through the training and performing. Either way I’m often told it’s been a life changing experience.
